try this SUPER SIMPLE recipe for homemade play doh that keeps well
This recipe is crazy easy, the only hard part is picking out which colors you want to try!
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup salt
4 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 cups lukewarm water
2 Tablespoons of sunflower oil
Food coloring, optional
Quart sized bags
Stir together the flour, salt and cream of tartar in a sauce pot. Then add the water and oil. Cook over low-medium heat, stirring constantly. You may notice chunks forming in the dough and that's ok, keep stirring!! Continue stirring until the dough has thickened and begins to clump together. Remove from heat and place on wax paper. Allow to cool some (I like to do this next step while its still warm) and then knead until smooth. If you’re adding colors, divide the dough into balls (for how many colors you want) and then add the dough into the quart sized bags. Start with about 5 drops of color and add more to brighten if needed. Knead the dough, while inside the bag so it doesn’t stain your hands. ( Or be a rebel like me and mix bare handed) Once it’s all mixed together I like to place it in the bags, air squeezed out, and allow it to rest for about 30 minutes to ensure the colors are mixed in and not going to stain little hands.
Store the play dough inside the bags once done to keep soft. Keeps for up to 3 months, honestly like 6 months.
